The Rubik’s Cube is a 3-D combination puzzle that was invented back in 1974 by a Hungarian sculptor name Ernó Rubik. Originally called the Magic Cub, the licensing to the puzzle was sold to a toy company, and the Rubik’s Cube was born.
In a classic Rubik’s Cube, each of the cube’s six faces is covered with nine stickers that can be any of 6 different colors. The goal is to rearrange the cube in a way so that every face of the cube is its own color. It’s a highly addictive and challenging puzzle, and as a result, there have been over 350 million cubes sold worldwide, making it the top-selling puzzle game!
In the clip below, an adorable 3-year-old girl named Emmy attempts to solve the Rubik’s cube while Dad films. She starts the timer, and when Dad says, “Ok Emmy, you can go,” she begins to turn and twist the cube as fast as she can. I love how she’s not even slightly intimidated by the puzzle’s challenging nature. The fact that her little hands can barely grasp the corners of the cube pushes the video over the top.
Within a minute, Emmy has made incredible progress. But later, Emmy runs into an obstacle and wants to give up. Luckily, Dad is there to offer words of encouragement, and he pushes his little girl to keep at it because he knows she’s fully capable of solving the problem. Two minutes later, she solves the puzzle!
I can’t believe she solved the cube in just three minutes! I remember spending hours playing with the Rubik’s cube, but the best I did was to have one side the same color. She’s amazing!
